A Look Back at Toni Morrison’s Remarkable Life Achievements

    Toni Morrison wrote many critically-acclaimed pieces of literature, these include but are not limited to; 11 novels, 2 plays, 9 non-fiction pieces, and even a libretto! Morrison is also the co-author of 5 children's books that were co-authored by her son, Slade.

Morrison died yesterday, August 5th at the age of 88. Her book Beloved is the winner of a multitude of prizes, as well as her many other novels and works.

She had lived an incredible life and had an incredible impact on so many lives. Some of her most notable achievements include;

Quite the list of Literary works

Morrison wrote 11 novels, five children’s books, two plays, nine pieces of non-fiction and even a libretto! Song of Solomon, Beloved, The Bluest Eyesare just some of the examples of her greatest works.

Her series of children’s books were co-written by her son, Slade Morrison.

1988

Morrison won six different awards this year.

1993

Morrison became the first-ever black woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.

She was also awarded the Commander of the Arts and Letters in Paris.

1996

Toni Morrison won the National Book Foundation’s Medal of Distinguished Contribution to American Letters

2000

The author’s contributions to the humanities were recognized when she was awarded the National Humanities Medal

2010

Morrison was named Officíer de la Légion d’Honneur, which is the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits

2011

Her work was recognized by the federal government when she was chosen for the Library of Congress’s Achievement Award for Fiction

2012

Toni Morrison was awarded one of the highest honors when she was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
